A volcanic eruption on Iceland’s Reykjanes Peninsula started on Thursday, causing lava to flow from a 2.5-mile fissure. This latest activity, the sixth since December, forced evacuations, including at the Blue Lagoon spa. Although the lava flow has not endangered nearby towns like Grindavík or impacted flights, it did create a dramatic scene, with spectators observing lava fountains illuminating the sky. Following several days of seismic activity, the Icelandic Meteorological Office reported reduced vigor in the eruption by Friday, though equilibrium had not been reached.
