Trump demands GOP unity around new spending plan

President-elect Trump has praised a revised stopgap spending plan as a “very good Deal for the American People” and urged lawmakers to support it. The bill, which would fund the government through March, suspend the debt ceiling until January 2027, extend the farm bill for a year, and provide $100 billion for disaster aid, was criticized by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries as a “Trump-Musk-Johnson” proposal. The bill also dropped provisions increasing congressional pay, allowing the Washington Commanders football team to return to D.C., redirecting spending on prescription drugs to health plans and pharmaceutical companies, and restrictions on U.S. investments in China. House Speaker Mike Johnson is expected to vote on the measure on Thursday evening.
