When was pompeii destroyed

Pompeii was destroyed on August 24, 79 AD, during a catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The eruption buried the city under a thick layer of volcanic ash and pumice, preserving many of its structures and artifacts for centuries until their rediscovery.
